PREPARING FOR APPOINTMENT:
• Please arrive with a clean face or arrive 15 minutes early and let the front desk know so they can assist you.
• Eat high-protein meals prior to your appointment.
• Take a thorough shower and shampoo the morning or night before. This will decrease bacteria in the area
• Try to avoid alcohol, fish oils, Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Advil, Motrin, or other over the counter blood thinners for 7 days prior to your appointment. If you are on blood thinners for medical reasons, please let us know ahead of time.
• To help minimize bruising as well as speed up healing, we recommend Arnica Montana (available at LaVida, if needed). Place 3 or 4 pellets under your tongue, 3 times a day, the day before your appointment and the morning of your appointment.
POST-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS:
• May go back to most regular activities; however, rest, avoid showers, avoid washing hair and only eat soft foods for the next 24 hours.
• Apply ice and take Tylenol or Ibuprofen for pain and to reduce inflammation.
• Avoid drinking or smoking for 1-2 weeks to prevent possible infection (very rare).
• Avoid lying on side of face for 3-5 days to decrease possibility of thread drifting from where it was placed. We recommend sleeping on back, if possible.
• Stay out of sun for 5 days to reduce the chance of infection from sweating, wind and dust. Always wear SPF applied with clean fingers.
• Avoid exfoliating devices and irritating products such as Retin-A, Hydroquinone or Vitamin C for 7 days.
• Avoid dental work (including cleanings) for 6 weeks due to tenderness and movement restriction of jaw.
• No excessive movement with your face over the next 2 to 4 weeks. Strong animation can irritate threads and cause sensitivity. Be aware of aggressive chewing, yawning, smiling, big expressions etc.
• Avoid yoga, heavy physical exercise or exertion for 2-3 weeks.
• Avoid IPL, laser resurfacing, peels and other treatments 4 weeks.
• Avoid heat therapies and massage in the treated area for 4-8 weeks.
Normal and Expected Concerns
• Bruising, swelling and soreness. If bruising is visible, you can start taking oral Arnica and apply topical arnica cream.
• Asymmetry and irregularity of the tissues treated is common and will resolve.
• Tenderness and tightness at treated areas is common – this may last up to 14 days after treatment.
• Puckering at some entry points is common as we try to achieve the best lift. It will resolve on its own over 7-14 days. You can also discuss with your provider what is acceptable to you. Every face is different. The more laxity that you have, the more temporary puckering you may experience.
• Hearing an occasional click as the threads settle in and the puckering is released is common.
• Depending on the type of threads placed, it may take 6-8 weeks for the full treatment effect.
Please report any increased redness, swelling, or pain at an insertion site, exposed or extruding threads.
