IPL / ThermaVein

Pre-Treatment Instructions for IPL / ThermaVein

Contraindications

  • Pregnancy
  • Breastfeeding
  • Antibiotic use within the last 10 days
  • Retinol, Retin-A, AHA/BHA, Enzymes, Vitamin C use within the last 7 days
  • Manual exfoliation within the last 7 days
  • Accutane use within the last 6 months.
  • Active cold sore or fever blister
  • Prolonged sun exposure or sun burns within the last 7 days
  • Self-tanner use within the last 2 weeks

Preparing for Your Appointment

  • Please shave the treatment area the night before. Hair absorbs extra energy from the laser and makes it uncomfortable when the light hits the hair.
  • Please arrive with a clean face or arrive 15 minutes early and let the front desk know so they can assist you.
  • Discontinue Glycolic Acid, Salicylic Acid and Vitamin C one week prior to your appointment.

IPL/ThermaVein Post-Treatment

  • Keep the treated area out of the sun and always wear 30 SPF sunscreen for 7 days after treatment. You can burn and blister even after the treatment so avoid the sun for a week.
  • Avoid hot showers, hot tubs, saunas, aggressive exercise and alcohol. We’re trying to avoid anything that may trigger redness-especially when treating for redness reduction, for 48 hours afterwards. These activities will increase vasodilation which can increase redness.
  • Avoid aggressive active products such as Retinol/Retin-A, Vitamin C, scrubs or polishes for a week. Skin may be sensitive and must be treated gently. Review your skincare products with your provider to ensure there are no harsh ingredients. A post procedure kit is recommended.

Please report any prolonged redness, swelling, blisters, or other unwanted side effects following your treatment.*

With IPL

There may be a sunburned sensation and redness for several hours after the treatment. Each area usually requires a series of treatments to achieve optimal pigment and redness reduction. Nothing is permanent and you may have to repeat a treatment series in the future to maintain results or deal with newly occurring pigment and redness.

With Thermavein

The treatment area can remain reddened and may even develop fine cat scratches or crust. Do NOT attempt to exfoliate or it may become irritated and cause hyperpigmentation to that area. Let it heal on its own. Moisturize and protect the area with SPF.

With IPL and Thermavein

Vessel reduction may require more than one treatment depending upon the size and location of the vessels. Your laser technician will discuss which vessels will respond the best (very superficial spider veins that are red and visible through the skin) common areas are around the nose, cheeks and chin.

Laser Hair Reduction

Pre-Treatment Instructions for Laser Hair Reduction

Contraindications

  • Pregnancy
  • Breastfeeding
  • Antibiotic use within the last 10 days
  • Retinol or Retin-A use within the last 7 days
  • Accutane use within the last 6 months
  • Active cold sore or fever blister
  • Prolonged sun exposure or sunburns within the last 7 days
  • Self-tanner use within the last 2 weeks

Preparing for Your Appointment

  • Don’t pluck or wax the area for about 2 weeks before coming in for a treatment. The laser will only target hairs that are in the follicle.
  • Give the treatment area a good, close shave the day of the appointment and as close to the time of the appointment as possible. If you are planning on having your back lasered and can’t shave it yourself, we’ll shave it for you for an extra charge of $35. Just let us know while making your appointment, and we’ll schedule extra time for the shave.
  • Please don’t apply any sort of products to the area. This includes lotion, deodorant, makeup and perfume. This especially applies to deodorants because the aluminum in deodorants may prevent an effective treatment.

Laser Hair Reduction Post-Treatment

  • Avoid the sun between treatments and use a good sunblock on the areas being treated. If you have gotten a tan in the area, please notify your laser technician. Sunless tanning products should also be avoided once treatments start.
  • Don’t pluck or wax the area between treatments. The laser will only target hairs that are in the follicle.
  • Makeup may be used after treatment. It is recommended to use new makeup to reduce the possibility of infection. Just make sure that you have moisturizer under your makeup. In fact, moisturizer will help the dead hair exfoliate from the follicle, so use moisturizer frequently and freely on the treated area. Any moisturizer without alpha-hydroxy acids will work.
  • Avoid picking or scratching the treated skin.
  • Anywhere from 5-30 days after the treatment, shedding of the hair may occur and this may appear as new hair growth. This is not new hair growth, but dead hair pushing its way out of the follicle. You can help the hair exfoliate by washing or wiping with a washcloth.
  • You may shower after the laser treatments, and use soap, deodorant, etc. The treated area may be washed gently with a mild soap. Skin should be patted dry and not rubbed. Underarms that have been treated should be wiped with alcohol for 24 hours. You may apply deodorant after 24 hours.
  • Hair re-growth occurs at different rates on different areas of the body. New hair growth will not occur for at least three weeks after treatment.

Linder Chemical Peel

Pre-Treatment Instructions for Linder Chemical Peel

Contraindications

  • Pregnancy
  • Breastfeeding

  • Please arrive with a clean face or arrive 15 minutes early and let the front desk know so they can assist you.
  • Avoid the following procedures: electrolysis, waxing, depilatory creams, laser hair removal approximately 7 days before your treatment.
  • Delay the use of any of these ingredients for 7 days: Hydroquinone, Acne topicals, Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Beta Hydroxy Acids, enzymes or other exfoliants.

Linder Chemical Peel Post-Treatment Instructions

  • Leave the chemical peel on for at least 8 hours or overnight.
  • Stay cool! Avoid any excessive forms of heat; heating internally can cause hyperpigmentation. Do not use hot tubs, steam rooms, saunas, no swimming, don’t workout or any activities that may cause perspiration for 24 hours.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure and ALWAYS use sunscreen of at least 30 SPF.
  • Do not have electrolysis, facial waxing or use depilatories creams for 7 days.
  • It is normal for the skin to feel tight and itchy. Use the Post Care Kit to minimize any side effects. Your aesthetician will recommend any skin care products.
  • Delay the use of any of these ingredients for 7 days, Retinoids, Hydroquinone, Acne topicals, Alpha Hydroxy acids, Beta Hydroxy acids, enzymes or other exfoliants.
  • Do not pick or pull on any loosening or peeling skin. This could potentially cause hyperpigmentation or scarring. The skin will generally begin peeling 2 to 3 days, however peeling can take place for the next 10 days.
  • It is common for your skin to be reddened and sensitive immediately following your treatment. You may feel dry, tight and itchy, this is normal. Light flaking may occur in a few localized areas for several days but you should not necessarily expect to “peel”. The amount of peeling observed is not an indication of the effectiveness of the treatment. The amount of sloughing varies depending on the condition of your skin and the home care products that are used daily. Your skin will still benefit resulting in smoother and softer skin, a healthier glow, less oil, more moisture, refined pores, less discoloration, diminished fine lines and increased acne control.
  • Do not have another facial treatment or peel until your clinician advises you to do so.

  • Recommend follow up and repeat treatments in 4 weeks and for best results a series of 3 – 5 treatments

Day 2 (Day After Treatment)

You may clean your face with suggested post care and apply makeup (mineral only), lotions and other topical products as usual. Stay away from exfoliants or any acids that are present in cleansers/serums/moisturizers as these can make your skin very dry and irritated after the procedure. Be sure to use an approved SPF 30 or greater sunscre

GentlePeel CO2 Laser Peel Post-Treatment Instructions

It is important to follow your provider’s instructions after treatment. You will have little to no discomfort when these instructions are followed.

During the first 24 hours post treatment:

  • Use ice/cold packs every two hours for 20 minutes maximum for swelling and
  • discomfort. Cover treated areas with a moisturizing ointment every two hours.
  • Keep your head elevated by using two or more pillows when lying down.

After the first 24 hours, follow these instructions as directed by your provider:

  • You can continue to use ice/cold packs (20 minutes on; then 20 minutes off) as needed for swelling and discomfort.
  • Continue taking all medications as directed by your provider
  • If necessary, as directed by your provider, take acetaminophen or pain reliever as ordered or recommended
  • Your skin may feel sensitive and may have a red, pigmented and swollen appearance depending on the treatment. The treated area may itch.
  • Continue to keep treated areas covered with a moisturizing ointment every 3-4 hours. This will decrease the healing time and minimize discomfort such as itching. Periodically lightly spray the treated area with cold water.
  • Pain medication may be given, if needed, however discomfort should lessen within 24 hours. If you feel pain 1-2 days after the procedure, call your physician.
  • Begin gently cleaning the skin twice a day with a mild, hypoallergenic cleanser. Do not scrub the treated area. Reapply occlusive ointment after each wash.

For a few weeks after treatment:

  • Avoid sun exposure, as well as tanning beds and tanning creams.
  • Use a broad-spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunblock SPF 50 or greater when the treatment area is exposed to the sun. If possible, cover the treated area with clothing or use a brimmed hat to reduce sun exposure.

Keep all follow up appointments, so your provider can assess how the treatment is progressing. Always call the clinic promptly if there is any increase in pain or increase in skin redness.

Following treatment normal activities may resume per level of comfort. However, no swimming or using hot tubs/whirlpools while redness is present, usually for at least 72 hours. Once you feel comfortable and healed, a normal skin care regime, including makeup or shaving, can be resumed. Be careful water is not too hot when shaving.
